Onyx comes from the Latin word which is also ‘Onyx’ which in turn comes from the Greek word meaning “claw”.
Onyx makes a very good material for seal engraving as the stone is hard and consistent to enable good detailed engraving. The stone is highly scratch resistant which means it should remain shiny.
Onyx with its very smart jet black finish looks particularly stylish with formal wear – black tie events.
